CALL YOUR SHOT! INDEPENDENT FILM PREDICTIONS FOR 2012

What does the future hold for Independent Filmmakers?  How will the landscape transform in 2012?  Let's create conversation that can help us all push Independent Film to new heights.

1) A Year Without Rent does not end.  The movement founded by Lucas McNelly has an afterlife... whether it is Lucas himself or another brave filmmaker who steps into his shoes.

2) An independent Filmmaker not named Steven Soderbergh, Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, or David Lynch will crowd-fund $1 million.

3) #AGYST - We will see a rise in Independent Actors embracing Social Media and playing a larger role in the promotion of Independent Films in the way that Gary Ploski, Gregor Collins, Wonder Russell, Elizabeth Karr have.

4) Filmmakers will stop releasing Trailers to their Short Films and simply release their Film online.

5) Everyone will realize that Crowd-Funding is here to stay and not a passing fad.

6) In the last few years, we have seen filmmakers (David Paul Baker, Gary King, Gregory Bayne, Zak Forsman) thinking self-distribution before traditional distribution.  Keeping in mind it takes years to build an audience, in 2012 we will begin to see the results of these efforts as filmmakers release their sophomore and junior films’.

7) Our 2012 Dream Guest Joseph Gordon-Levitt does not appear on Film Courage, but legendary indie film helmer Edward Burns does.

Which cameras will dominate independent film productions in 2012?  Will Final Cut regain favor with independent filmmakers?  Will independent filmmakers spend more time creating Web Series than Films?  Will the Artist-Entrepreneur truly emerge this year?

Do you agree with our short list of Predictions?  We'd love to see what you think, please share your thoughts with us.  Can you expand or add to this discussion?
